These solutions find applications across various industries where precision, reliability, and continuous operation of critical processes are essential.

Compressed Air

Compressed air is used in thousands of commercial and industrial applications. It can be used to power rotary equipment, drive reciprocating equipment, operate controls, cool, sandblast, paint, clean, aerate, etc. Compressed air is so pervasive in industry, it’s estimated around 10% of industrial energy usage is for producing compressed air.

Handling compressed air generally means ensuring the proper amount of air is delivered at the proper pressure for the task. Pneumatic flow meters and pressure gauges are critical pieces of equipment in this regard.

Aerospace applications rely upon a wide array of specialized tools to achieve exacting precision. These tools may help test or troubleshoot electrical systems, analyze and test materials, inspect for corrosion or other damage, monitor temperatures, ensure proper flow, and determine that pressures fall within established ranges. Additionally, these tools need to be calibrated to ensure the accuracy required.

Intrinsically safe is a designation given by certifying agencies that electrical instruments have been designed and manufactured to operate safely in hazardous environments. This is generally accomplished by limiting the electrical and thermal energy to below the level that can cause the ignition of flammable gases and/or dust.

Products are tested and certified intrinsically safe by a number of independent certifying agencies including Underwriters Laboratories (UL), Canadian Standards Association (CSA), Factory Mutual Research Corporation (FM) and the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA).

For the most part, automotive applications do not differ much from other types of applications though some tools are optimized for use with autos. A well-stocked mechanics toolkit should include a multimeter or clamp meter to diagnose electrical issues as well as an infrared thermometer or thermal imager to find areas producing temperature higher than normal.

Plastics are synthetic resins that are malleable and capable of being shaped or molded into solid objects. Due to their versatility, ease of manufacture, and low cost, they are used in an enormous and expanding range of products.

Plastic is named after its most unique attribute, its plasticity, which allows it to be permanently reshaped by applying heat and pressure.

Most power produced is generated by using the same basic method. Whether coal, gas, nuclear, biomass or co-generation, these plants heat water to produce steam which is used to spin a turbine attached to a generator. Maintaining and troubleshooting these processes require a wide array of tools depending upon the specific process. Such tool include: electrical test tools to identify faults, pressure and flow instruments to ensure adequate water and steam, and inspection scopes and material testers to check for corrosion or damage.

Hazardous locations are defined as places where fire or explosion hazards may exist due to the presence of flammable gases, vapors, dust, or fibers. Due to the inherent danger in these areas, equipment must be approved for use in such locations. Such approvals confirm that a products has been tested and certified to conform to standards mandated by the European directive ATEX or another standards organization such as NEMA.

Applications involving oil, gas, and petrochemicals require a specific set of features to safely and accurately measure flow, level and other parameters. Owing to the flammable/explosive nature of these products, Intrinsic Safety and/or Explosion-Proof approvals should be considered imperative for all equipment used with them.

Oil, gas, and petrochemicals have other properties that influence the type of equipment that must be used with them. Among these properties are the viscosity of some petrochemicals along with the reactive nature of some petrochemicals. Care must be taken to select instruments compatible with the medium.

An impressive array of consumer products are made of paper and paper products. Understanding the effects of moisture on these products during their manufacture, storage, and use is a critical component of quality control. Too much moisture during the manufacture of paper products can cause poor cohesion allowing products to fall apart. High moisture during storage can lead to mold issues. High moisture during use, as in printing, can cause the paper to curl, jamming machines and causing other problems.

A high quality moisture meter with a blade-style electrode is an effective means of ensuring the moisture content of paper and paper products is within specification.

Well-run companies recognize that a modest investment in a robust preventative maintenance program is one of the most direct ways to protect the investments they have made in their facilities and equipment as well as to ensure production is not interrupted by a breakdown. Instruments designed to detect excessive vibration, electrical spikes, heat build-up, or to determine the condition of the insulation on wire and motor windings are all cost-effective means of identifying areas of concern before they disrupt your business.

The primary consideration in waste-water and grey water applications is the ability of the instruments to accurately function in the presence of solids. Most instruments are not designed to be compatible with solids. As a result, they may contain obstructions or other elements that can make the instrument susceptible to fouling which could lead to inaccurate readings or a total system malfunction.

Aviation has a set of needs unlike those of any other industry. Due to public safety considerations, aircraft have very vigorous testing protocols established by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) which require regular testing of airframes, power plants and pitot-static systems, which provide critical flight data including airspeed and altitude, in order to maintain the aircraft’s Certificate of Airworthiness.

Clean water applications are fairly straightforward. Without chemical compatibility concerns or worries about entrained solids or bubbles, there are few limitations on the type of equipment that can be used or the materials with which it can contact. The exception to this is applications involving drinking water. Any materials that come into contact with drinking water must comply with NSF/ANSI 61: Drinking Water System Components-Health Effects, a set of national standards developed by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

Cryogenics refers to the production and use of materials at very low temperatures, generally below −292°F (−180°C). Getting temperatures this low generally involves the use of liquefied gases, most commonly liquefied nitrogen or liquefied helium both of which have very low boiling points and are common gases making them relatively inexpensive.

The primary consideration of food and beverage applications is that the equipment be sanitary. Instrumart carries a number of level meters, pressure transmitters and flow meters that are CIP/SIP (clean in place/steam in place) compliant making it easy to sterilize the equipment without disassembly, a major consideration for large-scale food/beverage production. Additionally, many of the flow meters we offer utilize fittings such as tri-clamps, tri-clovers and 3A pipe fittings which are sanitary, food-grade fittings that comply with ISO 2852 Stainless Steel Clamp Pipe Couplings for the Food Industry guidelines.

Keeping these engines running reliably at peak performance involves a varied set of tools capable of measuring the capabilities and efficiency of the engines.

Heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration accounts for a very high percentage of the energy use in a building. Controlling costs while maintaining optimal comfort levels and adequate ventilation requires making sure HVAC/R systems are operating at their highest efficiency. A number of specialized tools are available to assist technicians in analysis and troubleshooting of HVAC/R systems to ensure they meet that high standard.

Safety should be the top priority in any industrial environment. Such settings combine large machinery, potentially dangerous materials and by-products, explosive hazards, high-voltage electricity, high temperatures, background noise, and plenty of other hazards.

With water being a limited resource in many areas, large-scale agriculture relies upon irrigation. With many competing demands for water, effective management is not possible without accurate measurement. High-quality flow meters, capable of operating in remote locations and unaffected by some sediment in the water, are the perfect solution for metering irrigation networks.

Natural gas is a primary source of electricity generation and heating, accounting for around of 30% of energy usage in the United States for a total of around 22 trillion cubic feet of gas. Energy costs are one of the highest expenses in commercial and industrial operations. Failure to control energy costs cuts deeply into the bottom line.

Pharmaceutical manufacturing is a heavily relegated industry that relies on both extensive research and development as well as precision manufacturing techniques. When selecting equipment for pharmaceutical manufacturing, it’s important to look for instruments that that satisfy those requirements.

NSF/ANSI 61: Drinking Water System Components-Health Effects (NSF-61) is a set of national standards developed by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to establish minimum requirements for the control of potential adverse human health effects from products that contact drinking water. If you manufacture, sell or distribute water treatment or distribution products in North America, your products are required to comply with these standards.

Utilities are the infrastructure that provides electricity, natural gas, water and sewage, and telecommunications to our homes and places of business. These essential services require specialized tools to maintain the complex systems and troubleshoot should problems arise. We offer a wide range of highly accurate industrial and commercial-grade tools well-suited for work on utilities. Of course, the tools needed to run a water treatment plant differ significantly from the tools needed to run an electrical substation.

Caustic and corrosive chemicals, by definition, damage and corrode materials with which they come into contact. In applications which require measurement of these chemicals, it is necessary that the measuring technology either does not require contact, like ultrasonic, or that the parts of the instrument that come into contact are made of materials that do not react to the chemicals being measured.

Brewing and fermentation are complex arts that require skill, good ingredients, and a little help from technology. Though we know that brewing and fermenting have been going on for millennia without the help of temperature controllers, temperature probes, and other technology, we can’t help but think that it would have been a whole lot easier had that technology been available. Technology helps maintain precise conditions allowing you to make a more consistent product and freeing you up to concentrate on big things while it takes care of the details.

Agriculture has an extremely wide variety of applications and Instrumart has many of the tools needed to get the most out of your crop.
